Sandy and kids

Individuals making major contributions to the quality of education for students within the Cupertino Union School District (CUSD) during the 2017 calendar year are eligible to be nominated for the 5th  Annual 2018 Sandy Liu Community Service Leadership Award.

The Sandy Liu Community Service Leadership Award honors a member of our local community who has demonstrated exemplary leadership in service to the children of CUSD.

Sandy Liu was a visionary leader within both the Blue Hills Elementary School and CUSD communities. A loving mother of two, Sandy passionately dedicated her life to improving the quality of education for all children.

In 2010 she played an instrumental role in leading the “Their Future is Now” campaign, a collaborative effort of parents, local businesses, local leadership, CUSD, and CEEF which raised $2.5M in 2.5 months to retain 115 K-8 teachers, prevent K-8 teacher reshuffling, and maintain a 20:1 class size ratio in Grades 1 – 3 district-wide.

The winner of the 5th Annual Sandy Liu Community Service Leadership Award will be formally acknowledged at CEEF’s 33rd annual gala, “Black & White Ball,” to be held at Club Auto Sport in San Jose on March 3, 2018. The awardee will receive a ticket to the Gala, as well as a $1,000 award to be allocated to an educational program within CUSD of her/his choice.

Any person, agency, or organization is encouraged to submit applications for individuals for consideration for this award.  A committee comprised of representatives of CEEF, CUSD, and community members at large will review all nominations and select a winner.

Nominations must be submitted by no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, January 26th, 2018 in order to be considered.
